Cycle Devizes is now a sub group of Sustainable Devizes.

The aims of the cycling group for Sustainable Devizes remain the same: to INSPIRE enough cyclists in and around Devizes so that cycling becomes an accepted everyday form of transport for all ages, stages and abilities.

Added to this overarching aim, Sustainable Devizes wants to see less reliance on fossil fuels, less traffic and cleaner air.

'Social Cycling in Devizes' is the facebook cycle group for cycling in and around Devizes. This group is a way of inviting local cyclists to join them for a local ride.

Other events will be advertised on Facebook and on this website.

With obesity now a common place it is vital to encourage everyone to be physically active, especially children.

Cycling in Devizes is on the increase, but those who commute to work by bike are too few to reduce peak time traffic. Actual and perceived road danger are the most off putting factors.
Cycle infrastructure
Some community reps stand up for better cycling facilities through representation at Wiltshire Council's Devizes CATG (Community Area Transport Group) and the Air Quality and Transport Strategy Group. These comprise officers, county, town and parish councillors as well as Devizes Community Area Partnership, Trust for Devizes and Cycle Devizes/Sustainable Devizes to advise Wiltshire Council about local road management and infrastructure through Devizes Area Board on alternative months.

These groups manage a small budget and can bid from the larger local transport pot.

There is now more cycle parking in the town but the provision of just two hoops in the Market Place is lamentable.
